A cleanout is not finished when the vessel is empty.
It is finished when the solids are at a permitted disposal site with the paperwork to prove it. Hauling is where open loads spill, manifests go missing, and a subcontracted trucker's schedule slips. It is also where a plant's residuals compliance can go wrong.
Mobile Solids Solutions started as a trucking company. Chip Romesberg founded Romesberg Trucking in 1988, and hauling is still the foundation of how we work. We move dewatered sludge and biosolids in sealed roll-off containers on trucks we own, driven by our own CDL drivers.

How we haul sludge

Hauling liquid sludge is expensive because you are paying to move water. A tanker of thin sludge might carry only a small share of actual solids. Pressing the material on site before it is loaded means the truck carries the part you need to get rid of. Across a large digester or lagoon job, that difference can add up to many fewer loads and a much smaller disposal invoice. See Mobile Belt Press Dewatering for how the press works.
Disposal that fits your permit
Biosolids and residuals rules come from the federal EPA Part 503 rule and from each state's own program. In Pennsylvania, that means DEP requirements; other states have their own. The right disposal route depends on the material, its classification, and your plant's permit.
We work to whatever governs your plant. Tell us your permit conditions and preferred disposal route up front, and we build them into the scope rather than finding them mid-job.

Hauling as part of every MSS job
Hauling and disposal are included in every cleanout we run:
That means one contractor, one schedule, and one point of accountability from the first pump to the final disposal ticket.
Safety and compliance on the road
Our drivers hold CDLs and our crews are OSHA 10 certified. Our 0.78 EMR sits below the common 1.0 bid threshold. For procurement, our office provides insurance certificates, W-9s, and bid documents on request.
Our yard is at 1505 Berlin Plank Road in Somerset, Pennsylvania, central to western Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Ohio. From there our trucks serve municipal authorities and boroughs across Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic, and our equipment has worked in 19 states.
What operators ask us first.
Do you haul sludge in open trucks?
No. Dewatered cake travels in sealed roll-off containers on our own trucks.
Who chooses the disposal site?
We agree on it with you before the job starts, so it fits your permit and your state's rules.
Do you haul liquid sludge?
We dewater on site first so we haul cake, which cuts loads and disposal cost.
Will we get disposal records?
Yes. Load and disposal documentation comes back to you for your residuals files.
Do you use subcontracted truckers?
No. The trucks, containers, and drivers are ours.
Can you haul biosolids across state lines?
Yes, where the disposal route and permits allow it. We plan the route with you in advance.
How is hauling priced?
It depends on tonnage, distance to the disposal site, and disposal fees. Quotes are free and include hauling on every cleanout.
